Read 1 Corinthians 12:12-31

“We are one body.” If you ask me, this is basically what Rey says in The Rise of Skywalker when she is facing off with the reincarnation of Emperor Palpatine.

In that powerful scene (or cheesy depending on your taste in movies), as Rey comes against this seemingly unbeatable enemy, she hears the voices of all the Jedi who have gone before her and senses that the power of the whole collective of Jedi is coursing through her veins. Ooh! It gives me goosebumps. (It’s ok if it just makes you want to puke.)

In 1 Corinthians, Paul says the same thing about us! When we join God’s mission, we become part of something bigger! We become part of a living, breathing entity: the Body of Christ.

The Body of Christ is made up of every person that wants to be a part of building God’s Kingdom. We are all different. We’re diverse ethnicities and nationalities. We speak different languages, have different personalities. We have different interests and different abilities. We learn about God differently and we experience God in the world differently. We think about God’s mission differently.

As individuals, we have weak spots and inabilities. But when we all come together, we’re a powerful force! On our own, we’re like Rey, fighting a sometimes seemingly unbeatable enemy. But when we come together, “I am all the Church!” and against the Church of Jesus, the gates of Hell will not prevail. (Matt. 16:18)

How does reading 1 Corinthians 12:12-31 give you hope that you are a part of a body that is bigger than you, that is made up of diverse talents and abilities? A  church that is collectively so powerful Jesus said the gates of hell won’t prevail against it? If it helps you to answer this, just imagine yourself as Rey and yell “I am all the Church!
