Stay on Target: The Mission of God and the Church - Friday September 23 | Reaching "The One"

Friday September 23 | Reaching "The One"

Read Luke 15:8-10

“Go after the one.” We spent some time earlier this week talking about the idea of “The One.”  We said that sometimes businesses will determine their “target audience” and then build their business strategies to be most useful in reaching their “target audience” with their product.

Pampers is targeting parents. So, their ads will be in Parenting magazines. They’ll partner with hospitals to give free diapers to parents. They’ll create commercials to make parents cry. They’ll go where parents are. Everything they do has the goal of reaching parents to get them to buy their products.

Now, in the Church, we’ve said that our “target audience” is both broad and specific! On the one hand, our job is to reach EVERYONE! On the other hand, God has placed specific people in our lives that He wants us to help know Him.

Although the way we think about reaching our “target audience” may be a little different than a for-profit business, I think we can learn something from their focus. Everything Pampers does they do to get more parents to buy their diapers.

Today, as we finish this week on the Focus of God’s mission, it might be helpful for us(as individuals and as a whole community at Harbor) to ask: Is what we’re doing helping us reach “The One”? Does the way we use our time, treasure, and talent help us make God known? Contribute to the flourishing of all of creation? Or have we gotten distracted from our mission with busy schedules, material comfort, or our routines?

Today, spend some time considering these questions for yourself as an individual, as a family, and for Harbor as a community. Spend some time praying about this with your family and your Journey Group.  Share your reflections with Kati and the Elders by emailing .
