Friday September 16 | God's Mission: Our Mission
“Helping people find their way back to God.” This is how we express our mission at Harbor of Hope. I hope that after the past few days, you can see how this mission is not something unique or new that we here at Harbor just came up with on our own because it sounded cool!
No, our mission is derived from God’s mission! Our mission to help people find their way back to God is aligned with God’s mission of restoring the shalom that existed in the Garden! With God’s mission to be known by all and to restore all creation.
In God’s Kingdom, there is no war. No one lives in poverty. There is no racism. There is no sexism. There is no oppression. Wicked rulers are dethroned. Families flourish. Nature thrives.
Here at Harbor, we believe that this is the reality God is slowly bringing about. Our mission as a church is to join in wherever we have the opportunity as God continues to restore what broke at the fall in Genesis 3.
That’s a lot to do! Yep. And that’s why we need each other in this church and our family members in the global Church.
Here at Harbor we have been given an opportunity to be a part of restoring shalom in Greater Lowell. That’s our assignment. We get to help God be known in Greater Lowell. We get to help all creation flourish in Greater Lowell. Over the next few weeks, we’ll talk more about exactly what that looks like. But as we end this week, I hope you can see how Harbor of Hope as a community and you as an individual have been invited to participate with God’s mission of restoring shalom.
Today, let’s pray for God to help us see our mission as a church and as individuals and to stay focused on that mission above all else.
