Help a Wish Come True

Posted by Mary Stargel on

After recently moving into my first apartment, I was excited but overwhelmed with how much I needed to buy for my new space.

Plates, dish towels, pillows, a drying rack, lamps, shelves, rugs and most importantly: a toilet brush. My new adventure suddenly became very expensive.

Thankfully several friends were able to donate home goods to help furnish my new place. I quickly realized it is expensive, overwhelming, and difficult to step out on your own and create a home.

Many people in our community face a similar experience. Whether it is someone coming off the street, someone who lost their home, a mother trying to support herself and her child, or someone coming from a recovery center, they each face the difficult task of making a house a home.

Often they walk in the front door their new space with nothing but the clothes on their back.

This is where one of our local partners, the Wish Project, steps in.

The Wish Project is a non-profit organization that works alongside community services and agencies to provide clothing, baby items, and home goods to those in need.

Their goal and mission is to fill 'wishes' and provide for their clients immediate physical needs.

The Wish receives donations from the community. They just received more than 2,200 pds of home goods from UMass Lowell. Every donation needs to be sorted and organized to create a warehouse "shop" where clients can go through and find what they need.

This is where Harbor of Hope comes in.

This weekend, on Saturday May 31st & Sunday June 1st, we have the opportunity to serve the Wish Project during our Spring LOVE LOWELL.

We will spend the weekend at the Wish Project sorting and organizing donations that have come in. What we sort and organize will then be ready for clients to come through, make a wish and select to fill their homes.

This weekend is your chance to be apart of the good work the Wish Project is doing.

Sign up here to SERVE  @ the Wish Project THIS WEEKEND!

Thanks for making a wish come true!
