Read Mark 8:11-30

Don’t you remember? In the book of Mark, the disciples are consistently portrayed as clueless while those on the “outside”- Gentiles, those of lower social classes, or sinners- seem to understand who Jesus is.

After all they’ve seen, fresh off a miracle where Jesus provided food for thousands of people, the Pharisees are asking for a sign and the disciples are worrying over only having one loaf of bread.

Jesus asks, “Do you not remember?” Mark deliberately portrays these events in sequence, so that he can show how Jesus has to continually open the blind eyes of his disciples.

As Jesus heals the man blind from birth from his physical blindness, the disciples begin to be healed from their spiritual blindness.

Do we ever give in to worry and fear because we forget about how God has been faithful before? Are we ever just as blinded as the disciples, despite our history of God’s provision and power?

Today, confess your tendency to forget, and ask Him to help you look for Him at work in what is worrying you today. If you’re fasting, ask Him to help you experience His power and presence when you don’t have what you want.
