March 19 | Afraid
Read Mark 6:30-56
They were terrified. In the midst of these miraculous stories of feeding thousands of people and healing the sick, we see the disciples afraid.
It’s almost silly, isn’t it? That in between these miraculous occasions, the disciples are afraid. The original ending of Mark ends this way too. With the disciples afraid.
I love this honesty. That even after they’ve seen Jesus do amazing things, they were still afraid.
It reminds me that it’s normal for me to be afraid. Even if I’ve seen God rescue me 100 times, I might still be afraid in my 101st crisis.
And Jesus responds to our fear the same way He did to the disciples. “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.”
Is there any place in your life where fear has taken hold of you today? Have you been ashamed to admit or face your fear?
Jesus’ words to you are the same as they were 2,000 years ago. “Take heart! I’m here! Don’t be afraid!”
Today, tell God about a place in your life where you are experiencing fear. Ask Him to help you feel His presence and peace with you.
