At Harbor, we celebrate generosity by partnering together with local and global initiatives to help further our goal of meeting the physical and spiritual needs of those around us.
OUR HEART FOR THE WORLD:
At Food for the Hungry, we seek to end ALL forms of human poverty by going into the hard places and closely walking with the world’s most vulnerable people. We actively partner with churches, leaders, and families to build transformational relationships, usher justice, and renew communities so God’s purpose is revealed in each person we serve.
Our view of poverty is holistic and complex. Our solutions are innovative and community-specific. We courageously seek out the overlooked and advocate for the underserved. We’re unrelenting and we do what others claim can’t be done. We honor the people we serve by inviting them to contribute to the process. Through community-owned transformation we empower children, families and communities to invest in their own development. More than anything, we want to see people thrive. We are agents of change. We work, we feed, we teach, we love, but we know when it’s time to leave.
For over 50 years Orchard Group has held to one single purpose: Planting churches. Orchard Group identifies dynamic locations for new churches in New York City, the broader Northeast, and now globally. They hire staff, and provide training and start-up funds to get the new church underway. We have supported Orchard Group's church plants financially since we opened our doors in 1999, and in 2013, we helped fund a plant in Amsterdam!
Land of a Thousand Hills Coffee
In 2001, the founder of Land of a Thousand Hills recognized a simple and tangible opportunity to make a difference in the reconciliation of the Rwandan people. The introduction of Specialty Coffee to the healing fields of Rwanda proved to be an uncommon opportunity for once warring countrymen to not only rebuild their homesteads, but to work together toward lasting peace.
A commitment to excellence in coffee has brought dignity and hope to a nation that history suggested would never recover. A message of forgiveness is spreading through the hills of Rwanda, and by serving Rwandan coffee in Harbor's café, we promote justice in a place where injustice once reigned. Drink Coffee Do Good!
