Winter happens...

Posted by Jeff Oakes on

Winter happens. We’d all like to exist in a perpetual summer, but winter has a way of showing up anyway. If this all sounds a little depressing- maybe too much Ecclesiastes and not enough Easter- I hope you’ll hear me out. I’ve learned this week that it’s ok to experience winter. It’s good to mourn and to experience sorrow, when the occasion warrants such a response. To not feel saddened by loss would be far worse than the grieving.

In Romans 12:15 Paul writes, “Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.”

There is a time to come alongside each other with tears, and I want to offer my personal thanks to those of you who have been praying for me and my family this past week, and for the cards and words of encouragement.

Spring is here, and while the air remains cold at the moment, it will soon give way to warmth. Flowers will bloom, the birds will return, and it will be time, again, to rejoice with a world that is rejoicing. We will celebrate the resurrection of our King, and we will be reminded that we are His.

Seasons change, but God is always good.
