Note from Jed's Desk (#14)

Posted by Jed Mullenix on

Harbor,

Our dream is to become a community that Gives Freely for the good of others and the glory of God. Our dream is not original; Jesus’ dream has always been for His church to be filled with outlandish givers who overflow in generosity toward causes close to the heart of God.

During the month of May, we’re considering what it looks like to overflow in generosity toward our neighbors, communities, the poor, and the mission of the local church.

Our entire series will culminate on May 30th & 31st with Generosity Weekend

On that weekend, we are going to practice generosity in two very meaningful and specific ways.

First, we will be giving our entire weekend offering away to incredible individuals who are doing great work in our community and around the world.

Individuals like:

  • Emily who is working in Haiti
  • Isaiah on the campus of UMass Lowell
  • Diane at Living Waters
  • Kevin at My Father’s House in Chelmsford
Our desire is to champion and support the work God is doing through their lives and ministries.

We will also be going into our communities to serve alongside our local partners. In the past, we’ve called these weekends “Love Lowell”, but this year we’re calling the entire experience Generosity Weekend.

There are many opportunities for you and your family to serve with us.

You can find out more and sign up for a location here...

Harbor, my hope is that every one of you who calls Harbor “home” will join us on Generosity Weekend by giving generously of your time and resources!

At the end of the day, if we are going to overflow in generosity, we must begin to engage in simple acts of generosity.

In Luke chapter twelve, Jesus said...

“Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.”

Jesus is saying that if you want to care deeply for the causes God cares for, don’t wait to feel generous to be generous. Practice generosity and your heart will follow.

If we wait to feel generous to become generous, we will fail at generosity.

If we practice generosity, a passion for generosity will soon follow.

For that reason, we are going to practice generosity while asking God to give us a greater passion for the causes He cares for.

Join us on Generosity Weekend and together we’ll give like never before!
